Once they were making money and gained respect in the industry again, they were bought by another organization in public broadcasting and kept growing.

Why did you choose to work at Candid?

From the start, I had great respect for John Peak. He’s very no-nonsense and he was forthcoming in sharing both his business model and my consulting assignment prospects. I appreciated his openness and was attracted to the idea of helping shape the firm as it grows.

How do you define “family”?

Anyone who knows the real you and loves and supports you anyway!

What’s one thing on your bucket list?

Egypt

What was your favorite class in school? Why?

That’s easy… History!  History class was equal parts geography lesson and historical events/figures and appealed to my sense of wanting to know about other people and places!

What was your first job?

My first real job was working in the engineering library in college.  I thought I’d be able to study the whole time but that was against the rules.  The director’s position was that patrons were clients and we needed to show that our primary concern was helping them.  Good first lesson for consulting!

Which of your personality traits make you a good fit for what you currently do?

I like to make lists which is a good baseline quality to have as a project/program manager!

What makes Candid a great company to work for?

We employ high-quality individuals who know that helping your client shine is job #1.  We have also created a culture that truly makes me feel a part of something outside of my client project or team.

How do you define “family”?

I see family as a community of people you love to spend time with, wife, kids, extended relatives and close friends. No matter what happens, they always have your back.

What’s your favorite movie? Why?

Braveheart – I admire the depicted passion of Scots for their country and their drive for independence, we can learn a lot from that nowadays. 😉

You’re given an all-expense paid weekend away anywhere you choose. Where do you go?

I’d love to take my wife to a deserted island with a nice beach, completely off the grid, a quick break from the busy life would be a blessing.

What’s one thing on your bucket list?

PhD degree from MIT in robotics / artificial intelligence.

What was your first job?

When I was a teen my dad had a store selling custom built PCs – I used to help him with that and served as a help desk staff – that’s where I got my MS-DOS and Norton Commander skills.

“I love the way Candid treats its employees, it’s a very generous and understanding company with an enormous amount of integrity, honesty and transparency. It’s a rare find on the market.”

What’s your favorite quote?

“Trust is built in small moments,” Brene Brown.

How do you define “family”?

I define family as the people who will always show up for you and love you unconditionally. Family is not always blood relatives. I have some awesome friends in my life that have allowed me to soar. And when I fail they were there to help me lick my wounds.

House at the beach or cabin in the mountains?

I love the beach. It’s peaceful and calms me. Ha!  The energetic and overachiever part of me needs to rest and just enjoy the moment.

Why did you choose to work at Candid?

Well, I like that Merrick Olive and John Peak are all about the employees. I have been in the IT Industry for over 22 years and this is my first job where I feel like I have more power to decide what I want my future to look like in the next 2 years. Candid is very aware of what it takes to be innovative and cutting-edge. I want to be where all that greatness is taking place within this organization.

Why did you choose your career path?

Ha! I wanted to be an opera singer or a musical theater performer when I first went to college. However, I thought that with all the talented singers out there I would just be another singer. I chose computers because I knew change was always around the corner when it came to technology. Here I am:  a singer, an interior designer, a photographer, an IT Consultant and a great cook.  I have a new motto: “ Die on empty!” When I transition into the other life, I won’t have any regrets. I have done and will continue to do everything I feel that calls me.

What adjective best describes your approach to your work?

I am a big picture person. I need to understand the 5 Whys.

“In the words of one of my favorite Candid Consultants, Christopher Lavergne, ‘Stanley, there aren’t any problems, just opportunities.’ He is quite the jokester but I will always remember those words. Thanks Christopher for helping me see through any challenge.  I am an overachiever at heart. There is nothing that I can’t do.  I may fail but that failure is only a tool for future success.”

What do you like to do in your free time?

Read (especially historical fiction); Assist our adoption consultant in helping other prospective adoptive parents through their adoption journeys; advocate for women’s heart health; Pure Barre; Walking/hiking; Running; Spending time with my family.

How do you define “family”?

For me, it’s not about bloodlines.  That’s partially because my children are adopted, but it’s also because some of the people I count on most are just dear friends who have woven themselves into the fabric of my life.

What do you love about your current job?

In my current role, I handle big IT implementations for my client, The World of Coca-Cola.  I’m given the autonomy to solve problems in the way I best see fit, and I know the team at the client trusts my direction.  I love that I’m given important projects for the business that really make a difference for the team, and I have the privilege of doing so in a highly flexible, part time arrangement.  My skills are staying sharp and I am still driving positive change, but I also have time to be the kind of mom I want to be to my young children.

Which of your personality traits make you a good fit for what you currently do?

I have the ability to relate to many different kinds of people.  I meet them where they are and can tailor my approach depending on what makes people most comfortable.  I think this is why I can work just as well with highly technical programmers as I can with highly creative marketing folks.  I also am not singularly driven by the end goal; I believe the journey is as important as the destination.  As such, I like to inject a little fun into anything we are working on.  This is never at the expense of professionalism, but I also think there’s no reason we can’t enjoy ourselves while working toward a goal.  In fact, I’d argue it gets you there quicker and with better results.

“You didn’t come this far, to only come this far.”

What do you like to do in your free time?

Spend as much time with family as possible; which includes a lot of lightsaber battles. I used to play a lot of golf and look forward to teaching my kids.

House at the beach or cabin in the mountains? Why?

Before kids I would say mountains but now it would be beach without question. Watching the bliss on my kids’ faces while playing on the beach is one of my favorite memories.

Who’s the one person that had the greatest influence on your life?

My first manager in my first professional job. He was able to handle stressful scenarios with grace and calmness and seemed to always be able to get the outcome he was hoping for from any situation. He taught me how to be a professional.

What do you love about your current job?

Freedom to solve integration issues using technology while being a part of a great team of people.

Why did you choose to work at Candid?

When a managing partner is deep-diving into very technical solutions and coaching you to ensure you can learn new technologies you know you are working for a good company.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Hiking, Snowboarding, Going to the Beach

House at the beach or cabin in the mountains? Why?

One of each! Why limit our possibilities and love for the great outdoors?

Which of your personality traits make you a good fit for what you currently do?

Organization & attention to detail; when driving a program of 10 disparate projects, it’s critical to get organized and establish a rhythm of getting enough details to head off issues/challenges before they become critical.

Why did you choose your career path?

Early in my career, I experienced the value of working cross-functionally to deliver solutions, not individual answers to individual problems. We must see the fully integrated business to have a significant impact. I discovered this was a strength of mine and quickly focused my efforts on project/program management with the goal of leading large transformation programs.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten?

The best piece of advice I’ve ever received is “never wish your time away” which really means to live every day to the fullest and not focus too much on what is to come. Time goes by so quickly and I think it’s important to live in the now and enjoy every second of time we have in this world.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time, I love to do anything outdoors and stay active. Hiking, swimming, camping, etc. I also really enjoy taking advantage of the flourishing music scene in Atlanta. There are so many fun events to take advantage of all year round!

What was your first job?

My first job was a Marketing/Sales position for a small Marketing firm in Dunwoody. I used to travel all over Atlanta and sometimes to other cities like Chicago and Las Vegas and run trade shows to market their products. It was a lot of work and taught me so much about working with varying personalities and demographics.

What skills do you use most often in your job?

I’m often told that I am very articulate and do a great job of explaining very complicated or complex things in an easy to understand way. I think this is the skill I use most often in my position. When communicating with potential candidates being able to articulate the details or a project quickly and efficiently is very important.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten?

You can’t let it defeat you.  It was from my dad a long time ago after I was really frustrated as a kid trying to learn how to actually drive nails.  Maybe 7 or 8 at the time.  I still think about that when I get frustrated.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Run and swim.  I used to say I did wood working, but then I had kids…maybe someday I can get back to that.

House at the beach or cabin in the mountains? Why?

I love both but I’d say the mountains.   Depends a lot on the time of year though….the beach in winter is preferable to the mountains then – I don’t like cold weather.

What’s one thing on your bucket list?

To walk El Camino de Santiago in Spain with my brother.  On a related note, The Way is probably one of my favorite all time movies.

If you could choose an alternate career, what would it be and why?

A children’s librarian.  Some of my biggest heroes after my parents were the librarians from my local public library and school.  I love children’s literature like Wind in the Willows or anything by Shel Silverstein, and to me one of the best things in the world is being able to read aloud or share that with other kids.

Why did you choose to work at Candid?

What’s your favorite quote?

In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing – Theodore Roosevelt

House at the beach or cabin in the mountains? Why?

Neither, sailboat!  We just got back from the British Virgin Islands where we bare boated (we were the crew) a catamaran with three other couples, and nothing beats bringing your ‘house’ with you on an adventure!  Every time we consider buying a vacation house, we pass because it would mean the same vacation over and over again.

What do you wish you could go back and tell your 16-year-old self?

Lottery numbers?  Worry less about the metrics, more about the relationships.  Live in the moment, enjoy the journey more than the destination, and don’t plan everything as it takes the joy out of discovery.

Work/life balance, owning the client relationship, and a great team that is behind me when I need it and that appreciates the work I do.

Why did you choose your career path?

After being a Structural Engineer, a restaurant server, an IT business analyst, a Project Manager, and an Army Blackhawk pilot and soldier, I realized I needed a career path that was flexible and offered varying and new challenges until I figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up.  That’s how I found consulting.

What’s your favorite quote?

Consider it pure joy, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.

Which of your personality traits make you a good fit for what you currently do?

I am a person who loves to plan and “do things right the first time.” As a PM/BA, these skills are critical.
